Fear Keeps You Alive

Fear makes you function. If nothing mattered to you, you'd be dead. Fear keeps you alive.

People think fear is an enemy. It isn't. Fear is an alarm clock. It wakes you in the moment you could fall asleep. It gives you vigilance you wouldn't have otherwise. It gives you speed.

An animal without fear wouldn't last a day. It'd last a few hours. Fear forces it to hunt. Forces it to run. Forces it to live at all.

People try to talk you out of it. They tell you to get rid of fear. That it's just in your head. That if you think about something else it disappears. That's a lie. Fear isn't something you erase. It's a part like your heart or your lungs.

Those without fear you recognize easily. They're deader than if they actually died. They walk into things without thinking. They don't see danger. They're not vigilant. They're not alive.

Fear keeps you on the edge. In a place where you either are or you aren't. Where every move counts. Where you can't afford to sleep.

That's not a life full of joy. But it's a life. And that's something.
